How do I get lots of free website traffic fast?

Author: Hi, I’ve just had a website built for me and now want to learn ways to get lots of free website traffic fast?
Can anyone recommend where to start?

There are some decent places on the web where you can learn to get started drive web traffic, but most are paid sources.
You need to make sure you get traffic too, as depending on what type of business you have (e.g. you only cater to local people in your own country) it’s pointless trying to get traffic to your website via other countries, as you often wouldn’t be able to cater to the visitors anyway…

Unfortunately there is no such method where you can get free traffic and lots of it and fast. If there was something like this, Google and Yahoo would not be in business today. If you want good quality traffic fast, your best bet is to go for paid services like Yahoo search marketting etc. If you are ready to wait and patiently build backlinks etc, you can generate the kind of traffic you want but it is not going to be overnight. It will take time. There are many good ways of building good quality traffic for your website. You can build backlinks, post flyers, participate in related discussions in forums, etc. Top most way is to get picked by top search engines like Yahoo and Google and generate what is called as "organic" traffic from them. However, this needs serious SEO skills as the competition is tremendous.

Free manual traffic exchanges are a good way to get started if you are selling an affiliate product or anything related to the make money online crowd.
Find forums related to your website and become an active member at them and include your link in your signature.
Find blogs related to your site and leave thoughtful and useful comments.
Write and submit articles to many of the top rated article directories around.
