that was the 3.1L. … that was the 3.1L. the 3.4L DOHC was optional and had it’s own set of problems… the biggest and most annoying being the alternator placement. but 3.4L Lumina’s are rare.
For some reason … For some reason this car scares me. I was watching something about a guy stealing this car in front of the police and like the looks of the car started to scare me.
The major issues … The major issues with these cars were the Intake and valve cover gaskets I guess head gaskets too. Also the pressure switch and TCC solenoid on the transmission ($10 parts) need to be replaced when you think your transmission is busted (about $280 in labor).
Lumina was … Lumina was generally a good car. Though all GMs had some trouble spots: head gaskets, brakes.
Where GM really lost ground was in the details. Interior styling. The interior in this was downright bad. It was especially unappealing to women.
The Tauras was … The Tauras was voted one of the worlds worst cars in 1995!! Dumbass!!! Chevy would blow ford out!!! I had a stupid 1995 tauras and that pieces of shit’s engine blow in less than a year!!! I now have 1995 monte carlo!! IT KICKS ASS!!
just because it was … just because it was a reskin really shouldn’t matter, as it was extensively reworked. Lots of auto firms simply rework the existing platform for the succeeding generation. Look at the 2001 Camry, it was a warmed over 1997-00 camry platform? So what? The Lumina may not have been a style or a sales leader, it was competitive (initially) and was a very safe car.
It was basically a … It was basically a re-skin of the early ’90s Lumina, which never made a dent in Taurus sales, or Camry/Accord sales for that matter. General Motors was always playing catch-up in the mid-size segment back then, trying to catch up with the reliability of the Camry and Accord and the style of the Taurus. The GM W-Bodies were doomed from the beginning, really.
GM has it’s stuff together these days though, I’ll give you that. The Malibu is a tough competitor at our dealership for the Fusion.
